Lt. Col Brad Martens has been a member of Whiskey University since April 2022. In 2016, Whiskey University began offering Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees. Martens earned his Bourbon Diploma with 8 classes complete on May 31st, 2022.

Brad is in his mid 40’s and lives in Columbia Missouri, halfway between Saint Louis and Kansas City – home to the University of Missouri-Columbia campus. Brad and his wife Amy have been married for 15 years and have three children, along with three grandchildren. His kids are involved in ice hockey, baseball, and the outdoors, while his daughter is a mother of three.

Brad is a proud Rotarian and currently serves as Assistant District Governor for District 6080.  He is a past Rotarian of the Year recipient and helped secure funding in excess of $100K for both local and International Service Projects.  In 2022, Brad visited both Uganda and Peru, focusing on water sanitation, education, the environment, and combating Malaria.

By day, Brad serves as the Manager for Outpatient Ambulatory Clinics and Radiology at the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute, part of MU Health, located in Columbia, Missouri.

Brad earned his Associate Degree and the title of “Certified Bourbon Taster” after passing 16 classes on July 12, 2022. As far as his whiskey or bourbon passion, it began with an infatuation for the history behind each bottle and distillery.  Brad often states, “The story behind the bottle is often more intriguing than the taste you get from your pour – in addition, sharing that story with friends is even more important”.

On September 14, 2022 Captain Martens advanced to earn the Title of “Master Bourbon Taster” by earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree at 30 classes and the rank of Lt. Col. in the Bourbon Brigade.

Brad Has The Following “Designations” & Credentials:

Chartered Master Whiskey Taster

(from the Whiskey University)
