Maj. Steven Feller
Steven Feller (Steve) has been a member of Whiskey University since November 2022. In 2016 Whiskey University began offering Certificates, Diplomas, and Degrees. Steve earned his Bachelor of Arts from Whiskey University during the fall class of 2023.
Captain Feller was born in Cincinnati Oh, across the river from George Remus’ final resting place. Steve comes from a long line of German Whiskey tasters, his grandfather came to the United States and after settling on his farm in Greater Cincinnati grew grapes and made his own still. He tested his “Hooch” with equipment borrowed from National Distiller, years before James B. Beam Distillery acquired it and shut it down. In his Whiskey Unversity classes, Steve learned that the strange device with a copper tube out the top was used to make his family recipes.
Steve doesn’t distill but does have several new charred oak barrels filled with white dog aging in his basement. He uses it for "educational purposes" in his consulting practice, where he is the Chief Sustainability Officer, coaching B-Corporations and Non-profits' in Clean Water and Clean Spirits”.
Steve began his journey one Mother’s Day when his wife suggested they start the Bourbon Trail at Maker’s Mark. He and his wife haven’t turned back. During the COVID shut-in they published the eBook, “The Path to Becoming a Certified Bourbon Steward”, which spent the first two weeks as the most downloaded book in its Amazon category. Steve passed his love of Bourbon to his son who joined Whiskey University in the class before Steve earned his own Associate Degree after passing 16 classes during the Fall Class of 2022.
Steve completed over 42 advanced classes at Whiskey University furthering his understanding of whiskey and adding to his collection of whiskey along the way. Steve has a major from the Tennessee Whiskey Region, the Blue Grass Region, and the Maryland Rye Region. He is currently enrolled in the Master's Graduate Degree Program and plans to graduate in 2024.
Steve has the following “Designations” & Credentials:
”Chartered Master Bourbon Taster”
